content
and format:

mini-ceili:

Classes primarily feature Traditional Irish Country Sets; we also include some Ceili Figure Dances.
Set dances are a style similar to Contra dance and American Square Dancing; It is not the Step Dancing seen in Riverdance.
(It is a good physical workout, but not as hard on the knees and ankles.
)      video example

Partners are not required / Smooth-soled shoes are recommended   (not sneakers)
Basics class concentrates on basic footwork and mastering the core set dances popular locally. (Clare Lancers, North Kerry, Ballyvourney Jig)
Continuing class refreshes a wide variety of dances previously learned at workshops for those that have mastered the core sets.

Note:  Occasionally a workshop with an instructor from Ireland replaces a regular class (with an extra charge)

Usually the 3rd Thurs. of a month will be a "mini-ceili" (featuring a dance from the class). This provides a chance for students to assess their progress on the dances being taught, and to allow them to mix with other dancers in an informal dance setting.  A nominal separate donation is collected in appreciation for our talented local musicians for providing live music for us .
